Rio Linda and Elverta are two adjoining communities that share common service districts and a common life style. The combined community of Rio Linda Elverta is located 8 miles north of the California capital in Sacramento. It is an area of 20 square miles in northwestern Sacramento County and is bordered on the south by the City of Sacramento, on the west by undeveloped land which is being annexed by the City of Sacramento as an extension of their North Natomas development, on the north by the Placer County line, and on the east by the unincorporated communities of Antelope and North Highlands. As of 2007, there are approximately 22,000 residents. Two-thirds of the residents live in one-third of the land area in modest homes in dispersed subdivided tracts. The other one-third of the residents on the other two-thirds of the land live in agricultural-residential two acre sites, a zoning legacy of the proximity to McClellan Air Force Base. Rush Limbaugh has teased Rio Lindans for years about their rural town. That is fine with us. We like our horses and our chickens running loose in our yards. We intend to fight to preserve our rural life style
